UK AIS Arrangements

The Civil Aviation Authority is responsible for ensuring the provision of an Aeronautical Information Service (AIS). NATS has been granted a licence to provide Air Traffic Services (ATS) in the UK, and these services include the provision of the UK AIS.

One of the responsibilities of the AIS is provide foreign aeronautical information. This information is housed in the AIS Foreign Library and is available to interested parties for flight planning purposes. The available information is usually in the form of elements of the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (the IAIP).

Electronic Media

Until recently, aeronautical information was routinely made available in paper format. However many National AIS units are taking the opportunity to make their information available via the inter-net or on a CD-Rom, in addition to the more traditional paper copies.

Changes within the UK AIS Foreign Library

In light of the trend towards electronic media, and with the agreement of the UK CAA, NATS has reviewed its policy for maintaining paper documents. It has been agreed that AIS will now only maintain paper or CD-ROM versions of the elements of the IAIP for those countries that do not make their IAIP accessible online.

European IAIP

The UK AIS Foreign Library no longer maintains paper copies of European IAIPs. These are now accessible using a free internet service (PAMS) made available by the European AIS Database (EAD). Customers will be required to register for this free service. European AIPs with the exception of Greece are available in pdf format. Follow this weblink to access:

www.eurocontrol.int/ead/public/standard_page/EAD_Basic.html

As an alternative to the EAD internet service, customers may make arrangements to visit UK AIS to consult any European IAIP using an EAD interface terminal. The EAD terminal provides access to European AIPs in pdf format.

ther Foreign IAIP

The Foreign Library will continue to hold available aeronautical information for those States that do not make their IAIP available via the internet. The list below indicates the media that is available. If a state's AIP is available online (WWW) click on that country's name to take you to their website.

NATS AIS will endeavour to maintain the Internet links to foreign AIS web sites. However such links are subject to change. In the event that any of the links do not work, or you are aware of any new links, please advise AIS. The majority of IAIPs available through these links do not require a user registration.

Access to UK AIS

Customers wishing to consult the CD-Rom and Paper versions of AIP, as detailed in the list, are invited to visit NATS AIS Foreign Library. The library is only open during regular office hours.

Further details about all AIS services can be found in the UK AIP GEN 3.1.3.
